About Self-Taught Studio
Self-Taught Studio has nearly 2000 art instruction videos, curated from YouTube, and organized by proficiency level. Artists of all ages can find a video, across 12 mediums, that will help them to practice or learn a new art skill.
Where are the workstations located?
Workstations are available to reserve at the Fine Arts on 5th Gallery and Studio in Malvern Iowa. Each workstation is equipped with all the needed supplies.
What is my proficiency level?
Six levels of proficiency range from "just getting started" to "master artist", stair-stepped on a continuum to provide a clear path toward advancement.
What is the cost?
The website is free to use. The video content has been created by talented artists from around the world and posted for public use on Youtube. The workstations, equipped with supplies, are available for $10 per hour.
Who curated the videos?
The videos are curated by Emily McQueen, an artist from Glenwood Iowa. Emily earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Art in 2004. She has many years of experience teaching private lessons and in public school classrooms.
What if I need help at the workstation?
A facilitator will be available to assist with the supplies, navigate the computer, and answer questions that may arise when creating artwork.
What are the age restrictions at the workstations?
Artists ages 7 and younger must have an adult sitting with them.
Artists ages 8 - 11 must have an adult in the building at all times.
Artists ages 12 - 15 can be dropped off at the studio. The cell phone number of the person providing transportation must be left with the artist.
